Welcome to S & B Minis
S & B Minis got its start back in the fall of 2006. My wife grew up on a farm and showed horses as a child and teenager. I grew up in a small town on Lake Michigan and had no contact with any types of equines, that’s why I am known in her family as the city slicker. She had mentioned on a few occasions about getting a miniature donkey but I thought nothing of it. I returned home from a softball tournament in Las Vegas and my wife had this funny grin on her face, she told me to go look in the dog kennel.
Much to my surprise we had a mom (My World Molly) and her baby, S& B Minis Sarge miniature donkey in the kennel, thinking to myself we do not even have any fence up yet. We then began the process of building a fence which quickly turned into more than one fence once we started dealing with a small breeder and going to small auctions.
We, mostly myself and my father-in-law, did a lot of impulse buying of pet quality animals in the early stages. I started doing a lot of reading and watching and I noticed that small blacks with good bloodlines seem to carry the most value. We made the decision to start searching for some minis that would put us in position to start breeding towards the small darks. I was also determined to find a farm that was a true breeder and not a donkey factory.
I was looking at Gotdonkeys.com one day and noticed an ad from Lewis Mill Farm, aka “The Black Connection”, stating due to some health resons, they were getting out of the business. I visited their website and found what I had been searching for. I immediately contacted Brenda and Bobby Reed, the owners of Lewis Mill Farm, and inquired about their animals. After numerous e-mails and phone conversations, I would like to thank Brenda for her patience; we decided to purchase all of their animals at the end of September 2010.
We collectively made the decision not to move the animals to Michigan until the spring of 2011, giving me the opportunity to sell our animals that do not fit in the new breeding program and also give the animals a slow introduction into Michigan weather rather than bringing them here in the winter.
I would like to thank Brenda and Bobby Reed for this great opportunity into the elite breeders of miniature donkeys. We feel with this purchase we will be one of the premiere breeders in the Mid West, if not the entire United States and Canada.
We welcome all visitors from the top breeders to the people just driving by to stop and check out these wonderful animals.
